Bongo Comics Turns 20!!

Big News! Bongo Comics

Bongo Comics is turning 20 years old!! Why it was only a decade ago they turned 10. Where does the time go?

In honor of turning 20 (hey next year they will be legally able to drink) they have gone through a bit of a redesign. Primarily their logo and are promising more regular features in their comics, better paper, and more fun stuff for fans. Along with technical changes they are also introducing a couple of new titles. One sounds like a return of Simpsons Illustrated which appears to be a magazing dedicated to Simpsons archive comics as well as Simpsons Comics One Shot Wonders which will feature other prominent world of Simpsons characters in their own one-shot comic.
I really like this idea of the one shot comic, however, much like their Simpsons Super Spectacular which features 'hero' stories of the Simpsons universe such as Radioactive Man, Bartman, and the like it, along with the new Simpsons Comics One-Shot Wonders is dedicated to Simpsons only characters.  As a fan of Futurama and wanting to see more Futurama product from Bongo reach a wider audience I would have liked to have seen both titles be more generic such as Bongo's One-Shot Wonders which could have incorporated stories periodically from the Futurama universe. I know I am not alone when I wonder what does Scruffy do all day at Planet Express, what is life like on planet Nibblonian, what was Leela's childhood like growin up in the orphanarium, and what would an actual episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad and All My Circuits look like? Could be fun if you ask me.
But back to the one shot nature of this new Bongo comic. Back, back, back in the early days of comics this was a regular thing that publishers did and it gave them an opportunity to produce a myriad of stories about different characters. If one character worked out well it could be brought back on a semi-regular basis or just an opportunity to tell some offbeat stories - much in the tradition of Treehouse of Horror. Dell and Gold Key really made good use of this format giving us first glimpses of Twilight Zone, Warner Brothers characters, Felix the Cat, and others. Can't wait to see it.
