Introduction

Some of you may remember me from so long ago - I ran a fan site called A Big Piece of Garbage much like the name of this blog. Well, having limited html skills and even more limited resources (too cheap to actually go out and purchase web space and so relied on my internet service provider who gave me 10mb for free to use which I used up pretty quickly) the site eventually shut down after using up all of my free web space. Eventually my internet service provider nixed the free web space all together and deleted all files from their server.

Flash forward a few years and we enter the world of free weblogs with unlimited space which is perfect for somebody like me to take advantage of. Having been out of the Futurama community for a good length of time I decided to jump back in to the fray just in time for Futurama's last season on Comedy Central. Booo!! However, being a fan of the show and seeing as I anticipate being of the fan in to the future I decided to revamp and restart the site as I still see the need and look forward to the fun and enjoyment I will get out of doing something like this again.

I chose to do a weblog for a number of reasons. The first the aforementioned free web space and storage for images, content, etc. The second was that as a blog this afforded me the opportunity to have the site also function as a quasi-message board wherein I could interact with other fans and have discussions about all things Futurama without having to run an actual message board. And to be frank with you there are a number of message boards which have been around for a long time and are good at what they do so why compete with that?

What makes this site different? Me of course. It is the perspective of somebody who is a fan and enjoys not only the show but the collectability aspect that goes hand and hand with being a fan these days. So, while you will be able to come and talk about the latest Futurama Comic, the latest merchandising releases (let's hope this will continue for the foreseeable future and beyond), DVD releases, news of Futurama's imminent return of new episodes, and so on this will also be a place to talk about the real good collectible stuff. I hope to be able to share some of the gems I have been able to accumulate over the years and more importantly be able to reach out to those interested to pick up even more.

Being a blog it also makes it easy to categorize discussions in to topics and allow a reader to see all the entries in a specific area of discussion. This site is divided up in to the following categories:

01 Fan Art(?): Having dipped my feet in to the realm of fan art in the past with only mixed results I have been working diligently on new stuff to share with you all. Unfortunately, I do not accept fan art from other people. Again, there are plenty of other sites out there that are geared towards that and are much better at it.

02 Show: You guessed it. All things about the TV show from episode guides to reviews of all the episodes out there. As sub topics each episode is labeled with additional tags of guest actors, directors, and writers so if you ever want to see all the episodes that have had guest voice actors, a list of all the episodes that have songs in them it can be achieved rather easily.

03 Merchandise: All licensed merchandise discussions. I am not interested in knock offs that people have made (unless it is a really cool custom piece in which case discussions would go to the collections topic explained below) but what is out there and what is available.

04 Bongo Comics: Producers of the Futurama Comics, trade paperbacks, calendars, and the soon to be released iphone app. Like the topics of the show there are sub topics here to quickly navigate to see all the issues written by a certain writer or certain artist.

05 Conventions and Signings: Discussions and wrap ups of conventions such as Wondercon, Comic Con, and in store signings by Bongo Comics or the show.

06 Collections: The good stuff. The hard to find rare items that I have in my collection that I am able to share with those out there.

07 ABPoG Archives: The place that contains all the special features, reviews, etc of the old ABPoG site.

08 Announcements: Any announcements regarding this site or Futurama in general whether it be for the show, merchandise, or the comics. Items contained here may also be cross referenced to any of the topics above.

Well, as far as the site is concerned that is about all I can think of. I hope to have plenty of you be fans of the site and look forward to talking about it with you all and being part of this great community once again.
