Soon to Be A Major Religion
Shown at last years Comic Con I was really excited to see this one again. While assembling a super collider that Farnsworth had purchased from Pikea, Leela and Fry experience some soreness and so decide to go see the good Dr. Zoidberg who gives them some miracle creme he bought from a traveling salesmen. The creme seems to work out fine for them until they notice the side effects of this miracle creme - it gives them super human powers. They decide to put their powers to good use and form a crime fighting duo. Fry as Captain Yesterday and Leela as Cloberella. Bender joins in as Super King to round out the trio and form the New Justice Team. They become instant success in New New York and even have their own theme song:
Go, go, go New Justice Team
Go team, go team, team team team
Whose that newest Justice Team
The New Justice Team
Captain Yesterday is fast
Also he is from the past
Not just fast but from the past
Captain Yesterday!
Super King has all the power
Cause all the kings have all the power
He has all the power of supermen, also he's a robot
Ain't it cool? Super King you rule!
Cloberella beats you up
Cloberella beats you up
Who does she beat up? You!!
Cloberella!
Citizens, never fear
Crazy do-good freaks are here
Until they run out of steam...
Miracle cream, miracle cream
Gives the power to the team
Its effects wear off for sure
So they just slop on some more
The New Justice Team!
Meanwhile, Leela has made special arrangements to spend the day with her parents above ground in the city of New New York and arranges a couple of above ground passes for them. While picking up the passes at the Mayor's office the Mayor gets a call needing the help of the New Justice Team. The villain the Zoo Keeper is threating to steal the priceless Quantum Gemerald from the museum showroom. It is up to the New Justice Team to save the City. The problem, which doesn't seem to be a problem to Leela, is that it is on the same day as she is supposed to meet her parents. She arranges to meet them at 10am at the museum as she figures to be done stopping the Zoo Keeper by then as he is scheduled to steal the gemerald at 9am. The Zoo Keeper is late and Leela misses her parents who think that she is ashamed of them but she does help stop the Zoo Keeper.
Feeling guilty over missing their date Leela spills the beans to her parents that she is the crime fighting heroine Cloberella. She implores them to not tell anyone about this and Morris immediately blabs the first chance he gets. The Zoo Keeper finds out and kidnaps her parents and holds them for ransom in exchange for the New Justice Team to steal the Quantum Gemerald. By this time they have used up all of their miracle creme and no longer have super powers. Figuring that nobody would know they were powerless they proceed to steal the gemerald and exchange it for Leela's parents.
Great episode and another top notch song. This episode is also a departure from the usual Futurama episode in that this one really stretches the boundaries of what is believeable within the Futurama universe. Past episodes for the most part dealt with things that were or are in the realm of possibilities while this one was done for sheer wackiness. It is one of the best episodes out there and is filled with lots of jokes like the Pikea super collider all the way down to the truly pointless lyrics of their theme song. The fight scene with the animals of the Zoo Keeper also parodied the old Batman television show with plenty of hokey visual sound effects.
